A Little About Us

Canine Quest is a Grande Prairie business that was born out of a passion for dogs, cats and other small pets. Our love for animals put us on a mission to make professional training and professional grooming accessible to Grande Prairie and area pet owners.

We love what we do and take it very serious. Each one of us are Certified Professional Trainers and/or Certified Professional Pet Stylists. We continue to update our education on a yearly basis through workshops and seminars loving every minute of it!

Dogs have always been an integral part of my life. There has never been a time I have not lived with a dog. Growing up on a farm in the Peace Country, gave me the opportunity to raise and work with a multitude of different dogs and animals.

Today, my animal family consists of four dogs, two rabbits, two geese and our cat. Niso partnered with me to achieve my Karen Pryor Academy diploma and is now my demo dog for training, canine first aid and workshops. Knuckles the cat was a stray kitten that followed my husband home from a walk twelve years ago and decided to stay. Rizzo, our shop cat who we adopted through Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association. Grey is a yellow lab and my Rally’O partner. Calder is our chocolate boy and love his scent games. Kitty is a chocolate lab and on her way to becoming one of the sweetest therapy dogs. Grey is a yellow lab who is pretty amazing at whatever she does.

I graduated with distinction from the Karen Pryor Academy and now share my passion and training skills with fellow dog lovers in Grande Prairie and surrounding areas.

I am currently pursuing my Professional Pet Stylist certification through the Paragon School of Pet Grooming, Melissa Verplank . I just completed Level 1 – Grooming Technician Program 09/13/2020, and have two more courses to complete before I am a Certified Professional Pet Stylist. I am very fortunate to work along side four amazing groomers that are able to mentor me through this journey.

I am also currently enrolled in the National Cat Groomers Institute to become a Professional Cat Groomer.

I am a lifelong learner of anything canine & feline.

Thank you for visiting,

Shannon

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for animals. I was the kid who was always bringing home all sorts of different creatures and over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the companionship of a wide variety of pets from lizards, snakes and turtles to rats, hedgehogs and rabbits and of course, some amazing cats and dogs.

When I was 8 we got our very first family dog, a Bichon named Carson. A year later we added a second Bichon to the family who we named Butler. Butler immediately became my faithful companion and to this day, he is still by my side as my inspiration at almost 16 years old! We rescued our other dog Odie from a puppy mill in Ontario. Odie had a rough beginning in life. We immediately bonded and he has taught me to be patient and understanding and at almost 7 years old, he is becoming a more confident well rounded dog everyday. He has certainly taught me the importance of perseverance and unconditional love. We also have two amazing cats, Hobbes and Grinch and a wonderfully sassy rabbit, Beatrix, who no doubt runs the household and keeps the boys in line!

My experiences with my own animals have inspired me to strive to create a nurturing and comforting experience with the animals I have the privilege of working with. They and my wonderful clients’ pets continue to teach me new things each and every day.

I have been a certified groomer for six years now and aspire to continue to learn and grow and become better every day. I have learned that every animal will speak to you if you simply take the time to listen.

I am so thrilled to be a member of the Canine Quest team and start this amazing new chapter in my career. I know there are may incredible pets and people we will encounter on our journey and I can t wait to see what the future brings.

    Thank you for visiting,

I grew up on a farm near Wanham where we had many animals. I would always spend time helping my mom teach the foals how to walk on a lead and snuggle the calves when my dad was out checking cows.

I’ve always had a love for animals so naturally my first job away from the family farm was as a bather in a grooming salon and in the spring of 2018, I went to school to learn how to groom. I joined Canine Quest in June and couldn’t be happier!

Growing up we had quite a few dogs and cats as well. In 2006 we got a kitten from my grandma, I named her Squishy after the jellyfish in Finding Nemo. When I moved to Grande Prairie in 2016, I brought her with me and she is loving town life, and even gets to come out camping with us.

In 2010 I volunteered at the SPCA with my high school class and I met a sweet husky mix puppy who quickly stole my heart. I went home and told my parents about her and once they met her, it didn’t take much convincing before we adopted her! She is currently living the life on the farm with my parents’ sweet Saint Bernard, Joe.

My husband and I have added a few fur babies to our family the last couple years. We have two young cats Ari and Nabs, and another older cat Uno, who made the trip all the way from Illinois with my husband when he moved here. We have recently added a mini Aussie puppy, Melody, to our family and she is such a smart little ball of energy!

From humble beginnings I’ve always strived to make the most of what’s put in front of me.

I grew up on Vancouver Island and surrounded myself with any animal I could find off the street. My love for animals is deeply rooted, from feeding squirrels out my window as a kindergartener, to bottle feeding rejected lambs through highschool.

I’m now 23 years old, bought a house with the love of my life, and have been grooming since August 2018. I love to learn new things, and build stable relationships with my four legged friends. I would like to venture into asain fusion grooming, and have considered travel to Malaysia for my certification.

I have a Pomeranian named Ponyo, and you’ll most definitely see my creativity spilling over onto him. We love to have fun playing in the more creative side of grooming, and I’m always looking for new pups to paint! Then there’s Trunks and Mushroom. A ragdoll and a tabby, that were the first pets I invited into my adulthood, I love them to bits!

As a child I always knew that I wanted to work with animals when I was older, it was always a dream and a passion of mine.

I started my first job working at a pet store taking care of the animals. From there I started bathing dogs in a grooming salon, and eventually in 2016 I went to school  to become a professional dog groomer.  That same year, I got my first dog, a miniature schnauzer named Baxter. I have been able to practice on my own dog which has been a great learning experience and a fun journey. Getting to see the improvements in my grooms on Baxter has taught me a lot!

I have now been grooming for 4 years and every day is still fun and exciting. I started working at Canine Quest in July of this year (2020). I love that this is a job where I can continue growing my knlowledge everday, learn new things and I particularly love getting to know and bond with each dog, as they all have their own unique personality!

In particular, I enjoy working with puppies and watching them improve and grow and helping give them a positive and fun experience with grooming.

I look forward to meeting more puppies and dogs as my carreer with Canine Quest takes off.
